Local Employment Access Project (LEAP)
Local Employment Access Projects (LEAP) www.leap.org.uk is a registered
charity
based in Kensal Green, which
over 15 years has helped more than 4500 unemployed people into
employment. The vast majority of LEAP's clients are from ethnic
minorities, but they serve people from all backgrounds. Their success
has been based on a close working relationship with employers, their
closeness to clients and local voluntary/community groups, and their
ability to facilitate change in inner city residents. LEAP also owns
and manages the Hazel Road Community Centre next door to their offices
and engages with the local youth by running a Youth Club there on
Tuesdays and Thursdays. Activities provided include table tennis, pool,
DJ-ing, video gaming and trips to places such as Alton Towers,
Streatham Go-Karting and Laserquest, as well as providing Dance and
Drama classes for 7-13 year olds. Tom's Trust provided funding to help
refurbish the Hazel Road Community Centre and to improve the
facilities, thus allowing LEAP to increase the scope for hiring the
centre, generating extra revenue to provide more activities for the
local youth. One such new activity is the provision of silk-screen
printing classes. - www.leap.org.uk
